The thing that stuck out to me the most in today’s passage is Verse 5 and 6. Timothy’s mother and grandmother were known for their faithfulness so it’s as if the message of the Holy Spirit and God’s gifts were passed down. In the reflection it says that we must not be scared to spread the word and make it known that we are Christians – I agree with that too.
I think it is important to instill a love for God, a fear of God, and a reverence for God into your sons and daughters [I know I don’t have any now, but when I do. :)] God in the family is very important. Yes, there will be suffering with the experience - "Will my kids like it?" "What if they are skeptical?" (That's the suffering part v. 8) I think that we have to treat them like a regular non-believer; if God wills that they come to Him, He will make it happen. But it wont hurt to still talk about it with your kids.
This challenges me even more to be a leader. To be an exempla to others and so that I myself can feel the Holy Spirit. It challenges me, also, to not be timid and rebuke my students with Love!!! :] (jk.. sometimes..)

last sunday you totally rebuked me. as if i were your student. =P haha
i think being a vulnerable leader is a good thing. it creates a more open atmosphere for struggling students to share without fear of being judged - but maintaining the authority in classroom and strength as the leader becomes all the more tough for a vulnerable leader.
we just gotta follow up on them and keep encouraging them (regardless of how WE're faring in our spiritual battles) - but otherwise, the leader has already lost the trust and faith of the members.
i agree with you, Helen, about the importance of having God centered in our families... as Daniel ssn and I prepare to be parents, we can only pray that our children will learn to know the Lord, especially as we love them with God's love...
one of the things i've learned through teaching is that love can break down barriers... loving our students doesn't necessarily mean that we become pushovers... but i think that as we show genuine love for our students, we enable them to be open with us... and we are given the opportunities to build trusting relationships with them to encourage their growth...
I think there are many ways we can pass God's love to those around you, but even the statistics say that family value plays a critical role in a child's life... that puts quite some responsibility on us to do things right, by passing God's love and His teachings onto the next generation...
I think
Mr. and Mrs. Koo
